Why is slug control necessary?
Slugs can devastate plants extremely quickly. Individuals wishing to protect their plants from damage can use a number of different control methods. Advice from the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) includes encouraging natural predators into the garden or using copper strips. However, metaldehyde-based slug pellets are one of the most effective ways to control slugs and snails and have been widely used and trusted for over 50 years.
The GROWRIGHT campaign is encouraging the use of only the right amount of slug pellets in the right place at the right time. You may need less slug pellets than you thought, in the case of metaldehyde it is s just 3 to 5 pellets across an area the equivalent size of an A4 piece of paper. Only put pellets around the plants you need to protect and they should only be used when slugs and/or plant damage is seen.
